Quality assurance

Through a process called “Lifecycle of an Open Educational Resource”", a suggested' resource to the catalog goes through a number of different filters. Such process allows a quality technical assurance process, such as the selection of educational resources, auditing, cataloging, review of spelling and grammar in order to offer users the confidence to incorporate into their educational activities Open Educational Resources that best meet their needs.

  • The documentation filter occurs when a user (member) has suggested a resource. The user must fill metadata describing the resource and its applicability in an educational environment.
  • The audit filter includes a review by other collaborators to ensure consistency of the metadata provided in the previous step, and to review the basic criteria of acceptance.
  • The cataloging filter, experts adds information according to international schemas of accepted hierarchical knowledge classification patterns in different information centers and libraries.
  • During the editorial review filter, the information is normalized in the description of the resources.

These insurance quality filters in the description of each resource, eases the user the process of finding and selecting the best resources for their needs.

When the description of an educational resource has gone through the process, the resource inherits a status that certifies its condition to users as:

Badge Description
Suggested ER The educational resource has just been suggested by a user, yet has not been reviewed and may still be rejected if it does not meet the criteria for acceptance of an Open Educational Resource.

Audited OER
The educational resource has been reviewed by the educational community (from the same area of knowledge), ensuring that is a resource that meets the criteria for acceptance of an Open Educational Resource, is operating correctly, and also contains the basic description in the bibliographic card.

Cataloged OER
The open educational resource has been further reviewed in regard to their functioning, and has been enriched with additional descriptive metadata such as subject categories and keywords controlled only by a librarian.


In addition, a resource may receive a badge when, at various times in its life cycle receives a rating, review or adoption by the user community:

Badge Description

Adopted
The resource has been incorporated into learning activities; is described how it is used.

The resource has been rated, that means, valued it by other users based on the perceived value of use in teaching and learning activities. The reviews appear under the description of the resource, indicating the author, evaluation and a comment made about the experience with the resource.
